Chaplain

Rev. David Way is an ordained minister in the Wesleyan denomination, and an active member of the Moncton Wesleyan Church. He became chaplain of the Moncton Community Chaplaincy in November 2000. Previous to that he ministered in churches in New Brunswick, Nova Scotia, Saskatchewan and Africa. He has been awarded the Evelyn McKie Community Builder award. He is on the Citizens’ Advisory Committee of Westmorland Institution as well as a member of other committees in the community.

Circles Coordinator

Debbie Barriault is an active member of Allison Church. She became coordinator of Circles of Support and Accountability in September 2003. She has worked with Family Support Services, Touchstone Counselling Group Inc., and has given volunteer time to support groups and has served on Boards of Directors with the most recent being the Canadian Families and Corrections Network.

Board of Directors

Hubert Archibald is an active member of St. Andrew’s Presbyterian Church, Moncton where he has been involved as Elder and in Bible study groups. He has participated in Christian outreach and prayer groups in the wider church community. Hubert has been associated with the chaplaincy for many years as a prayer partner and Board member. At present, Hubert supervises the building maintenance, doing much of the work himself.

Dale Briggs practices law in Moncton with the law firm Clark Drummie. He is an active member of Harrisville United Church where he serves on the Official Board. He gives many volunteer hours to community services, e.g., Moncton Lawyers Association, Capitol Theatre Foundation, Greater Moncton Planning District Commission, and Moncton District Soccer Association. Dale became associated with the Chaplaincy in the purchase of the property and in 2005 became a member of the Board of Directors.

Helen Daley is a retired secretary, having spent a number of years in the School Board Office as Secretary to the Superintendent. She is an active member of First Moncton United Baptist Church where she has served on various Boards. Helen is a member of the Executive of the Atlantic Baptist Women. She has been a member of Community Chaplaincy Board of Directors since 1996, as treasurer for 2 years and now Secretary.

Laura Hoar is a retired high school teacher and college lecturer. She is an active member of Steeves’ Memorial United Church, serving on the Official Board and the Church Council and its the Congregational Care and Outreach Committee. Laura is an active member of the Ladies’Auxiliary of the Moncton Camp of Gideons. She has been associated with the Chaplaincy as Board member since 1994, chairperson since 1998.

Robert MacQuade is a chartered accountant and a retired Moncton businessman. Bob is an active member of First Moncton United Baptist Church, having served his church and community in many capacities over the years. Among his services presently, in addition to the Community Chaplaincy where he is treasurer, are the NB Branch of the New Brunswick Bible Society and the local Board of the K. E. Spencer Nursing Home.

Grant McLean is an active member of St. Augustine’s Catholic Church. He has one daughter who is currently studying at the University of Alberta. Grant serves on the pastoral ministry team for youth ministry in the Moncton diocese He volunteers at the Chaplaincy office three half days a week acting as receptionist and as office assistant. He represents the Chaplaincy on the Moncton Steering Committee for Homelessness.

Richard Porter, former general manager of a Moncton office supply company is presently working in retirement at GlaxoSmithKline pharmaceutical supply company. He is an active member of Allison Church and serves on several of its boards. He joined the Board of Directors for Community Chaplaincy in 2005 and serves as assistant to the Treasurer.

Thelma Richard worked as a medical secretary and is now retired. She is an active member of Notre Dame de Grace Catholic Church. Her volunteer activities in church and community include the French Catholic Women’s League, social justice and missionary committees, president of the federation of the Acadian family celebrations, and catering at the Beausejour Curling Club She was active, previously, in the Christian Council of Reconciliation and has been with the Chaplaincy since 1999.

Gayle Scott works in accounts payable at MacDonald Paving. She is an active member of Sunny Brae Baptist Church. She is church treasurer; former Pioneer Club leader and coordinator and involved in mission and outreach programs. Gayle is married to Robert Scott and they have three sons.

Elizabeth (Liz) Wall is an ordained minister in the Church of the Nazarene and is a member of the First church of the Nazarene in Moncton. Liz has been active in Compassionate Ministry in downtown eastside Vancouver working with street people in treatment and drop-in centers for 20 years. She is chaplain at the Salvation Army Lakeview Manor, Riverview. She joined the Chaplaincy Board in 2006.
